Book Review: I'm Not a Scaredy-Cat

I'm Not a Scaredy-Cat: A Prayer for When You Wish You Were Brave is a children's book written by Max Lucado and illustrated by Shirley Ng-Benitez.

In about thirty-two pages, this hardcover picture book portrays the whimsical story an adorable cat character dealing with fearful scenarios, such as the sprinkles on donuts, rainy days, marching bands, etc. While dealing with fears, this cat continues to recite a prayer about God to feel better in the situation, as well as feel closer to God.

With every page turn, there are captivating illustrations accompanying this sweet and humorous story. 

According to the back cover copy, "Follow a silly series of misadventures as scaredy-cat faces his worst fears.... For each of the fears, Max [Lucado] provides this reassuring child's version of Philippians 4:6-9: 'God, you are good. God, you are near. God, you are here! And, God, you love me.' A fun read for children and parents, I'm Not a Scaredy-Cat will open doors for important conversation about fear in a nonthreatening way and help you instill godly bravery in your kids."

I'm Not a Scaredy-Cat is a highly recommend children's book, and it's geared towards young readers, particularly ages six to ten.
