When he first learned about his HIV-positive diagnosis, Dr. Faulk was devastated since he believed it was imminent death. However, he strived to make a difference with this situation. As a young physician, he dedicated his life to the medical fight against AIDS, which lead to helping provide care to approximately fifty patients who died, including friends and his partner. With his diagnosis, he viewed patients with an internal scope of personal knowledge to the medical situation of living as HIV-positive.

After an undergraduate degree from Columbia University, Dr. Faulk graduated with an M.D. from the University of Washington. Then with additional training in San Francisco, he moved to Los Angeles in 1988 and limited his medical practice to those dealing with HIV. This book provides a courageous account of a physician treating some of the earliest patients of the AIDS epidemic, as well as a glimpse into the depth of mistreatment to minority group dealing with the AIDS epidemic. In this book, the author focuses on his personal experiences and medical situations while providing encouragement and hope.
