The Soul at Rest: A Forty-Day Journey into a Life of Prayer is an interesting book written by Tricia McCary Rhodes.
As the title indicates, this book guides readers on a prayer journey spanning forty days. This book is considered a quiet-time companion that focuses allows readers' to pray and reflection, despite the sometimes busy and overwhelming issues in life.
According to the back cover: "Our heavenly Father has always intended...for our active lives to be energized by souls at rest in relationship with him.... [This book] is an invitation to pilgrimage--not to some faraway land, but to your inner being, where the Spirit of God awaits."
This book is divided into eight main chapters, which are titled as The Journey Begins, Meditative Prayer, Praying God's Story, Conversational Prayer, Recollective Prayer, The Prayer of Simplicity, Prayer through the Dark Night, and Prayer without Words. Each chapter is divided into five days, so this prayer journey is easily designed to be an eight-week study or a ten-week study including the introduction and book summary. Also, there are additional sections, which are titled as Introduction, Discussion Guide, and Appendix: Questions and Considerations for Your Prayer Journey. The Discussion Guide features ten sections for the eight main chapters, as well as Introductory Meeting and Final Celebration that concludes this prayer journey.
The Soul at Rest is geared for all ages, from young adults to older generations. With the upcoming holiday season, it's worth considering buying this book as a Christmas gift or to keep for yourself.
Note: I received this book from the Tyndale Blog Network, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
