Title: The Highland Chieftain
Author: Amy Jarecki
Series: Lords of the Highlands, Book #4
Publication Date: July 31, 2018
The Highland Chieftain, by Amy Jarecki is an interesting historical romance.
When her betrothed ended their engagement, Lady Mairi MacKenzie was devastated and humiliated. Since Laird Duncan MacRae has always secretly loved her, he immediately requested her hand in marriage through her father. However, Mairi refused with her father's encouragement, especially since she believed it was a pity proposal.
A few weeks later, Mairi is required to attend a gathering, which includes Duncan and her former betrothed. Duncan saves Mairi, yet it's misconstrued and they are soon on an dangerous adventure. Throughout the story, there's plenty of internal issues, family struggles, and dramatic situations. Also, it's not a typical highland-style romance.
Since it's the fourth book in the Lords of the Highlands series, it's ideal to start with the first book, yet it's not necessary to read the books in order.
The Highland Chieftain is geared towards those who enjoy unusual historical romance stories.
Note: I received this book from NetGalley, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
