Book Review: True to You

True to You, by Becky Wade is primarily an inspirational contemporary romance featuring an underlying mystery.

As a historical village owner and genealogist, Nora Bradford is accustomed to helping friends and strangers with historical research. After an unusual introduction, John Lawson requests Nora's assistance to uncover his roots, particularly regarding his adoption.

When Nora and John embark on a mission to find his birth parents, they become dear friends and Nora feels an instant attraction to him. After suffering heartbreak years ago to due a broken engagement, Nora is finally ready to date. Unfortunately, John has a girlfriend for most of the story, which is a serious disappointment to Nora...and to me as a reader. :)

Although he's still a worthwhile hero, especially when John says on page 291, "I didn't have a choice about when in my life I'd meet you, Nora. If I'd had a choice, I would have chosen to meet you years ago.... Before you, I was making decisions with the information I had available at the time. Now everything's different. Because of you."

As the story unfolds, John and Nora reveal various secrets about their lives, while uncovering his past that may affect their future. This heart-wrenching story is still hopeful and enjoyable to read, especially the interactions between sisters.

It's the first book in the Bradford Sisters Romance series, yet there's also a prequel novella called Then Came You, which provides a glimpse into the Bradford sisters' lives by focusing on their parents. Hopefully, the series will continue with future books featuring the other two Bradford sisters.

True to You is recommended and geared towards those who enjoy reading contemporary Christian novels with a clean romantic storyline intermixed with a mystery or two.

Note: I received this book from Bethany House Publishers, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

  1. The cover of True to You by Becky Wade is really lovely with the manor house in the background & Nora in her beautiful blue knee-length dress trimmed in lace. The review is really captivating, as Nora (a genealogist) attempts to help John uncover his roots. It will be interesting to see if Nora can help him and solve the mystery about his adoption. Adding to my list of must reads. :)

    1. Yes, such a lovely cover to match a lovely book. I enjoyed reading True to You, and I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.
