Book Review: A Taste for a Mate

A Taste for a Mate, by Carrie Ann Ryan is a captivating paranormal romance book, which provides plenty of suspense and drama surrounding the Redwood wolf pack.

As the Redwood pack's beta wolf, Jasper Jamenson has spent his life focused on the werewolf pack, since he has lived over one-hundred years without a mate. However, he finally discovers his mate, yet decides to slow down the mating process. Jasper tries to incorporate himself in his human mate's life, by visiting her bakery for the scrumptious cinnamon scent and delicious bakery treats.

Bakery store owner Willow Delton looks forward to the daily visits by her mysterious fantasy man. After waiting several weeks, Jasper introduces himself and requests a date. Before their date can materialize, Willow is captured by the Central wolf pack and used as bait for Jasper and the Redwood wolves.

With a mission to destroy the Redwood pack, the Central wolves have turned away from their true nature with an evil alpha werewolf pack leader and his heir son initiating a horrifying deal that releases one of the worst demons into their world. This terrifying storyline is on-going and overarching throughout the majority of the Redwood Pack series with the Jamenson family and friends facing serious problems, captivity, and even death.

Willow's first introduction to the supernatural and reality of werewolves is during her captivity, when an evil man transforms into a wolf and attacks her. Due to the kidnapping, Willow's misguided thoughts, and Jasper's self-condemnation, they're forced to deal with the miscommunication and various mating issues surrounding their relationship, while Redwood pack is trying to resolve serious situations. Jasper and Willow are bound together in fate as mates, and they learn to survive as a werewolf/human couple.

Since it's the second book in the Redwood Pack series, it's recommended to start with the first book, An Alpha's Path. However, A Taste for a Mate introduces the entire Jamenson family, explains the reason behind the Redwood pack name, and provides the first glimpse into the Central pack's evil plan. Also, it's a completed book series, yet various characters are included in the corresponding (and currently on-going) Talon Pack series.

A Taste for a Mate is recommended and geared towards those who enjoy reading paranormal romances, particularly stories involving protective, hero-worthy werewolves.

Note: I received this book from the author, who provided reissued copies for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
